Erik J. is the performing name of Kansas City singer-songwriter, Erik Pearson.
Erik was raised on the singer-songwriters, rockers, and folkies of his parents' era, before becoming the lead singer of a metal band, naturally.
After this meander, he got his hands on an acoustic guitar and never looked back.
Erik honed his talents under the guidance of St. Joe legend, Jason Riley, before training in Classical and Jazz at the University of Central Missouri.
It was here that Erik formed a percussion and guitar duo. They performed (quite poorly) at local coffeehouses in the Warrensburg and Grandview area. During this caffeine-addled period, he also made his first foray into songwriting.
In 2015, Erik formed Ehrnman/Pearson with KC-guitarist Nathaniel Ehrnman. Signing with Russian Winter Records, they combined classic-folk and American Primitive. This culminated in their first EP: Say Goodbye/Juniper Breaks.
When they disbanded in 2018, Erik J. was born. Remaining with Russian Winter Records, he immediately began creating his distinctive blend of sophisticated yet accessible acoustic-rock.
He attributes his inter-generational appeal to a combination of storytelling, modern hooks, muscular guitar work, and some good ol’ fashioned stage-presence.
Erik J. is a true acoustic-alternative for the discerning listener.
